Jamboree on the Air

The Jamboree-on-the-Air, or JOTA, is an annual Scouting event that uses amateur radio to link Scouts around the world, around the nation, and in your own community. Held on the third full weekend of October each year, this worldwide jamboree requires no travel, other than to a nearby radio amateur’s ham shack.

There are many ways to get involved with JOTA.  Scouts of any age can participate, from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts and Venturers.  A participant patch is available, as is a certifi cate/log sheet that can also be used to fulfi ll a Radio merit badge requirement.

The 60th Jamboree-on-the-Air is October 20-22, 2017 The official hours are from Saturday at 00:00 hours local
time (right at midnight Friday) to Sunday 24:00 (midnight Sunday evening). So you’ve got the whole weekend
to make JOTA contacts.

The Skyview Radio Society will host an open house for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturers at their club house near New Kensington, PA on Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Come to make ‘contacts’ with other Scouts and hams around the country or world through Amateur Radio. Planned ‘hands on’ activities include ...
• Get on the air stations: CW (Morse Code), Phone and Digital
• Repeater and Portable Operations
• Radio Merit Badge Class (See next page for more details)
• Videos: ‘Morse vs Texting’, Ham expeditions to remote locations
