What you should know about Daycamp:

What is Daycamp?

Daycamp is a district-sponsored program that gives cub scouts a chance to experience activities of a summer camp without sleeping overnight.  The program includes many of the same activities boys would try in Cub Scout resident camp in a setting that is close to home and planned as a shorter day.  A trained Camp Director and program Director staff the camp.  Volunteers who are active in Scouting units and community guide all activities.

Where is Daycamp held?

Our Daycamp is being held at Fairbank Rod & Gun Club located on Herbert and Fairbanks Road in Fairbanks, PA. There is a parking lot in front of the pavilion where you can loop around to drop off and pick up your son daily. No need to get out of your car unless you are staying the day. Registration takes place in the large pavilion.  There will be someone in the parking lot to direct your child to the correct group/color.

How long is Daycamp?

The daycamp begins approximately at approximately 9:00A.M. on July 10 through the 12th with breakfast being served each day.  The day ends with a closing ceremony at 2:45 to 3:00P.M.  Please make arrangements to pick up your child at that time.

What will the program include?

The program will include archery, crafts, bb guns, sling shots, the Bug Lady, Honey Bee program, special events, and scout skills with a theme throughout all the activities.  This year’s theme is “Cubs with Bugs”

What should each boy bring?

Boys will be given a water bottle to carry with them throughout the day.  Boys should have raingear (poncho, ect.) in case of a little liquid sunshine.  Remember- no sandals for boys or adults!  A hot lunch will be provided each day for the boys. Leaders, parents and helpers can purchase a lunch each morning for $3.00. A menu will be provided in Mid – May.  There will be a trading Post at Daycamp with a variety of items available for purchase.  They include: pop, ice cream, novelties, and scout items.

How many leaders should accompany our boys?

A walker is needed for every 4 to 8 boys your unit brings to camp.  Leadership should be “two-deep” at all times.  This means boys are walking from station to station with at least two leaders at all times. All adults must have PA clearances prior to the start of camp. No exceptions!!!

What if it rains?

In the event of rain, Daycamp activities will continue as scheduled.  Alternative activities will be planned in case of rain.  Should Daycamp need to be cancelled due to weather such as severe storms, either prior to the start of the day or during the day, EMAIL notifications will be sent.

When will we receive any other information we might need?

Registration forms will be mailed out in March.  Forms will also be available on the Council webpage wfbsa.org under the Old Trails District tab and Old Trails District Facebook Page.
