ELEANOR G. MORRIS COMMUNITY SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP
sponsored by the
MOUNTAIN LAUREL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Graduating seniors who live in Cook, Donegal, Saltlick and Springfield Townships are eligible to apply for an Eleanor G. Morris Community Service Scholarship which offers an award of at least $1,500 award, issued in two annual installments.

Scholarship applications are available at the high school guidance office of the public school district serving in each of the eligible areas. Applications will be available by March 1 and must be submitted to the MLCC by April 1.

The Eleanor G. Morris Community Service Scholarship was conceived in 2006 by the Mountain Laurel Chamber of Commerce (MLCC).  The program honors the legacy of community service left by Dr. Morris in the more than 50 years she was a part of the community.  Funding for the Scholarship program is provided through contributions from friends of Dr. Morris, community residents and local businesses.  From its inception through 2014 awards, the MLCC sponsored this program; however, effective January 2015, Eleanor G. Morris Community Service Scholarships will be offered under the sponsorship of a new nonprofit entity, the Mountain Laurel Community Support Organization (MLCSO).  Those who managed the program previously as members of the Scholarship Committee will continue its guidance as the Board of Directors of the MLCSO.  Scholarship recipients are selected from graduating seniors who will be attending some form of higher education.  Students who live in the Springfield, Saltlick, Donegal and Cook Twp. areas are eligible to apply.  In March, applications are made available in the guidance offices of all high schools serving the eligible areas.  Applications are carefully evaluated using a student’s community service record as the primary criteria and awards are made on a competitive basis in May.

A GPA of at least 2.75 is required and applications are evaluated using community service activities as the primary criteria. Applicants must have acceptance from an institution of higher learning.

Information requests about the program should be directed to Marty Hinebaugh, MLSCO President at 724-593-2703 or mnathh@lhtot. com.)

Applications must be returned to the Mountain Laurel Community Service Organization, 166 Jones Mills-Stahlstown Road, Jones Mills, PA  15646 by April 1.
