Roundtable Resources
The Laurel Hills District of the Westmoreland-Fayette Council, Scouting America, offers a variety of programs designed to develop youth into responsible and engaged citizens through outdoor adventures, leadership opportunities, and community service.
Our district supports Cub Scouts (grades K-5) with fun, family-oriented activities, including Pinewood Derbies, day camps, and outdoor adventures. Scouts BSA (ages 11-17) participate in camping, merit badge programs, high-adventure experiences, and leadership development. We also offer Venturing (ages 14-20) for co-ed high-adventure activities.
Throughout the year, we host events such as camporees, service projects, recognition dinners, and leadership training to support youth and adult volunteers. Our district is committed to fostering character, citizenship, and personal growth through Scouting’s time-honored traditions.
The Westmoreland-Fayette Council of the Boy Scouts of America has been a cornerstone of Scouting in southwestern Pennsylvania since its establishment in 1937. Serving both Westmoreland and Fayette counties, the council has dedicated itself to fostering youth development through leadership, community service, and outdoor adventure.
Prior to the council’s formation, the region was served by the Westmoreland County Council, chartered in 1924. In 1937, a reorganization led to the creation of the Westmoreland-Fayette Council, expanding its reach to include both counties. This merger aimed to consolidate resources and provide a unified Scouting experience across the area.
Over the decades, the council has organized its operations into various districts to better serve its communities. Historically, there have been six districts: Braddock Trails, Bushy Run, Chestnut Ridge, Forbes, Laurel Hills, and Old Trails. In recent years, the council comprises three primary districts:
- Bushy Run District: serving western Westmoreland County.
- Laurel Hills District: serving eastern Westmoreland County.
- Old Trails District: serving Fayette County.
These districts facilitate localized support, events, and training for Scouts and leaders.
Since its inception, the Westmoreland-Fayette Council has been committed to providing quality programs that instill values, leadership skills, and a sense of community in young people. Through its dedicated volunteers, comprehensive training programs, and diverse outdoor activities, the council continues to adapt and thrive, ensuring that Scouting remains a vibrant part of southwestern Pennsylvania’s youth development landscape.
